Will An Add Blocker Crash My Pc?

So now Google, YouTube and even Amazon are popping out more adds like crazy. It’s annoying me since I have an older computer that can’t handle all these adds. Well it can, but it goes slightly slower and adds are annoying in any case. So I was thinking of downloading an app to block the adds since firefox only blocks 2 of them. However, would this crash my PC? I read a review for one app that claimed the program caused the PC to crash. And I would not want that to happen. Any thoughts on this matter?
